Horrid Wizard Creations (For Maze Rats/Cairn RPG)

These are some custom mosnters from an old Maze Rats campign I ran quite a while ago, The world was kinda of a grim fantasy would where monstrous wizards ruled the lands from the shadows, often experimenting on people and animals to create monsters. Here are some of them from the first wizard dungeon.

Bloatflies

Spawned from noxious sludge made from the dissolving flesh of humans, These small sprites gather in swarms to hunt flesh that the then return the extracted flesh to the wizard that created it. The necrotic energy gathered in their mass often makes them highly volatile, making melee attacks a big risk against them, Lest you want to be poisoned by the fumes.

1d6 HP, 6 AC, +0 AB, +0 STR, +2 DEX, +0 WIL

Cairn

  • Upon death will explode into toxic gas, Targets must do a STR save or become poisoned
  • Attacks involving fire will burn up the gas before it can effect closeby targets

Auromvorax

Their matted, golden fur and canine apperance gives the false idea that they are related to wolves. The Auromvoraxes human-like screams and cunning betray this notion. Their new mutated forms gives them a hunger for gold, and are willing to do anything to consume this gold. While much of its former intelligence has diminished it is possible to form a truce with the promise of gold, these truces usually don't last long.

  • Copper is toxic to it and will often mistake it for gold

Corridor Creeper

With slimy leathery skin and terrible chattering teeth, Corridor creepers are the garbage disposal of many wizards lairs, The garbage being corpses. But corridor creepers are rarely that patient and will often take measures to hunt down potential future corpses.

  • Critical Damage: Target starts rotting, dying in 1d4 days unless treated
  • Will prioritize eating rotten flesh

Pit Beast

The pit beast resembles a large armored toad, with sharpened nail teeth and sinister eyes. Despite their brutish appearance, they are quite intelligent and capable of speech. They are however also extremely cruel and delight in seeing lesser beings in dispair before eventually devouring them. Wizards that have more of an authoratative presence might be able to form some kind of arrangement with the pit beast. Pit beast not kept in check will almost never feel any obligation to uphold their part of the bargain.

Making an enemy of a marsh bird the enemy of all marsh birds. Some wizards try to use marsh birds as a form of surveillance system. Though they are notoriously hard to train.

      Bloatlord

Often when bloatflies are created, the residual sludge coagulates into a larger mass that while lacking in the ability to fly has the ability to spew forth bloatflies from its mass. Bloatlords are often used for calling fourth emergency troops. Wizards avoid having bloatlords too close to where they reside though as they are opportunistic hunters.

        Wall Ape

Of all of the monsters made by Brezhul, The wall ape is one of the more insidious ones. In its relatively small frame is a being filled with nothing but malice. And while it is not especially phisically strong, It is capable of manifesting an nigh indestructable magical barrier that blocks the way for adventurers and traps them in dangerous situations.

          Flesh Giant

Flesh Giants are rarely created rather they are discovered, often showing up in dark tunnels and dungeons where dark magic and human sacrifice is present. While dim witted, they are hard to kill and have immence strength, fleeing into smaller areas might seem like a good idea, though flesh giants rarely have such constraints. Having a permanent Flesh Giant is often shown as a status symbol in wizard society.
